About Dr. Rashida

Rashida Harrison is not a career politician. She is a working-class mom, a professor, and a lifelong advocate for change who has lived and worked in Michigan’s 28th district for over 23 years. A progressive, Black Feminist, and organizer, Rashida’s leadership is rooted not in ambition, but in accountability to the communities she serves.

In the classroom, Dr. Rashida has built spaces that are equitable, accessible, and grounded in the belief that everyone deserves to be heard. What matters most to her is not privilege or background, but the strength of ideas and their ability to serve the collective good. She believes our state government should operate on the same principles: transparency, fairness, and real accountability to the people.

Through her work organizing on campus alongside students of color, advocating for reproductive freedom and increased maternal health care, and mentoring the next generation of leaders, she has seen the contradictions of her district up close.

Communities facing crumbling infrastructure, structural inequality, and economic hardship sit just two miles from one of the largest R1 research universities in the country. That gap is not accidental, it is the result of political choices made in Lansing. And those choices can be made differently.

Dr. Rashida represents a new generation of progressive Democrats rooted in the working-class experience, not theory. She understands that lasting change is built from the ground up, through organized communities and shared responsibility. Her vision is one where families can afford to thrive, where rights are protected, and where the government works for the many, not the few.

Together, we can build a more just and sustainable future for District 28. It starts with demanding the representation our communities deserve and Dr. Rashida Harrison is ready to deliver.
